Greetings Troop 1000 families. We have some big news for the troop. The Richardson Rotary has tapped Troop 1000 to help with their flag fundraiser.
Citizens subscribe for their Holiday Flag program. Five times a year, American flags are planted at subscribers homes. (President’s Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day/9-11, and Veteran’s Day). Troop 1000 has been contracted to plant and pickup flags at ~173 homes in the neighborhood between Renner and Campbell off Alma. T1000 will be paid $1.25 per touch. So $2.50 per plant and pickup. The troop will earn around $2100.00 for the year. Scouts will also earn service hours.
As this is a troop activity we will not disperse funds to scout bin accounts. Instead, we will use the funds to completely pay for a campout like Webelos Woods and maybe deposits for Winter Camp.
We need parents involved with this as much as scouts. Our first deployment is Saturday February 17 for President’s Day. The flags are long so we need larger vehicles or people can carpool and help plant or pickup. We will meet at the RR storage unit to get the flags and then hit our neighborhood. The pickup will be the following Saturday February 24. I realize this is a campout weekend. That will require some scheduling and maybe more adult help. Any scouts who don’t go camping will have an opportunity to help with flags.

Money for the troop. Potential for larger areas in the future. Service Hours for the scouts. A chance to lessen camping costs for the parents. A civic service. A fundraiser that doesn’t milk the parents. Win-Win-Win! I hope you are all as excited about this as I am. For a few weekends a year, the troop could have a steady income stream.
